I am Senior Lecturer in Public Policy and Director of Postgraduate Research in the Department of Political Economy at King’s College London.

My current research focuses on the prospects of free societies – societies in which individual liberty is valued and protected. History shows that free societies are far less stable than is often assumed so it is important to understand the forces that may undermine or strengthen those societies.

In particular, I am presently engaged in ethnographic research into UK far right organisations with my research collaborator Elizabeth Morrow. This involves attending demonstrations held by far right groups and interviewing participants.

I am also working on the origins of totalitarianism, evaluating the account set out by F. A. Hayek in his famous book The Road to Serfdom.
